Black Gold Indeed

Doi Chaang Single-Estate Coffee

Why This Product Rocks

Consider getting your morning jolt from this single-estate Arabica coffee. Why? Here’s just a sample of the slew of goodie-two-shoe reasons:

The coffee beans are hand harvested in a stunning region of Northern Thailand (Doi Chaang) from small family Akha cooperative farms with the growers being compensated above what fair trade mandates. Plus, the farmers in Thailand are half owners meaning that they take in equal profits from world-wide distribution.

In contrast to much of the low-end coffee (yes, that’s the stuff you get at Timmy’s), these coffee beans are grown under the canopy of old growth forest which improves flavor and makes indigenous birds a little chirpier. Fresh water processing to extract the bean from its pulp, ideal altitudes, fertile soils, sun-drying, and sorting by hand also elevates quality.

Coffee plants are not given a chemical bath and are grown organically with fertilizer coming from recycled cherry pulp and manure.

The coffee beans are roasted in Calgary, Alberta by expert roastmasters (that would be a cool job I.D.) in small batches.

Body Benefits

Coffee often gets a bad rap for being a health pariah. Thing is, studies have shown that it can slash diabetes risk, improve exercise performance, offer protection from MS and Parkinson’s and is a great source of antioxidants. Problems arise when it’s doused with sugars or strange chemical flavourings (I guess when you drink the mass-produced bland stuff you need it to be flavored).
